Every wedding I coordinate feels like its own special adventure, but this one was particularly close to my heart. Helena and Derek are the kind of couple you just know are meant to be together — they met at a festival, and their shared love for techno music and the carefree festival vibe set the stage for the ultimate celebration. So when they came to me with their vision, I knew we were about to create something unforgettable.

Their wedding wasn’t just an event; it was a full-on festival wedding experience. They wanted everything to feel like a big, joyful party, filled with love, music, good foods and a ton of personal touches. And that’s exactly what we gave them.

The Lead-Up: A Day Full of Fun and Festivities

The day before the wedding, we arrived at the venue to begin the setup. American Creek Lodge in Hope, BC is the kind of place you have to see to believe. It’s remote, it’s stunning, and it’s everything the couple dreamed of for their ceremony: an observation deck overlooking Fraser Canyon. A perfect backdrop for their festival-inspired vows.

The couple was busy with last-minute details. One of the most memorable moments was when they told me they were expecting twins. Talk about an exciting development, right? Not only were they planning their wedding, but they were also preparing for two little ones! So, it was crucial to keep everything stress-free and on track. We worked closely to ensure there were enough breaks throughout the day for the couple to recharge and check on their babies.

The Venue: A Remote Paradise with So Much Character

The venue was a dream come true. With lots of outdoor space for lounges (on an exclusive 25 acre property), and a luxurious cabin for the wedding party to stay in, it was the perfect combination of nature and comfort. The venue was quite remote and didn’t have a hot kitchen, which added a bit of logistical complexity. But we made sure everything — from food to flowers — was prepped and executed smoothly.

The Big Day: The Ultimate Celebration

The wedding day itself was an absolute blast, and everything flowed seamlessly — with a few fun challenges along the way.

One of the most beautiful traditions they incorporated was the broom jump during the ceremony which originated from West Africa. A symbol of sweeping away the old and welcoming the new. As they jumped, they were starting their new life together — leaving behind the past and stepping forward into their future.

The theme was all about fun, and it showed in every detail throughout cocktail hour and reception. The festival merch booth — complete with friendship bracelets, LED lights, sunglasses, candy, and even photos of the couple at past festivals — was such a hit. And instead of traditional table numbers, they named tables after their favorite festivals: Running Man, Shambhala, and more. The four different cakes were another highlight — because who wouldn’t want a variety of delicious options?

One of my favorite personal touches was the personalized napkins featuring the couple’s dog, Roshi. A little nod to their furry friend, and a detail that made guests feel even more connected to their celebration.

As for entertainment, it was non-stop fun. From a magician during cocktail hour to dancers in lit-up bodysuits at the party, there was never a dull moment. And of course, the late-night food truck crepes were a crowd favorite, ensuring that the party kept going until the early hours of the morning.

The Heartbeat of the Wedding: Music and DJ

For Helena and Derek, music wasn’t just an afterthought—it was an integral part of the entire celebration. Given their love for festivals and techno beats, they wanted the soundtrack of their wedding to feel like an energetic, seamless experience, one that kept the party alive and everyone moving. And I have to say, they absolutely nailed it!

From the very beginning, we knew we had to have the right DJ to bring the energy to match their vibe. Enter Bobby Hicks from Dust 2 Dawn Productions. Bobby absolutely killed it. His ability to read the room, build the atmosphere, and seamlessly transition between moments of the day made the music flow flawlessly. He ensured that each song captured the spirit of the couple, from their intimate first dance to the hype of their grand entrance and the celebration that followed.

Here’s a quick peek at the soundtrack that set the tone for each major moment:

  • Groom and Groomsmen Processional: Feel the Love by John Newman

  • Bride’s Processional: A Moment Apart by ODESZA

  • Broom Jump Song: Bade Zile by Chris Lake

  • First Dance: Kyle (I Found You) by Fred Again

  • Grand Entrance: Cola by CamelPhat

And, of course, the music didn’t stop there. Bobby kept the dance floor packed all night long with the perfect mix of tracks that kept guests dancing until the very last song.

A Little Drama (But in the Best Way Possible)

You know those little hiccups that sometimes happen on a wedding day? Well, just as we were getting ready for the ceremony, we hit another snag — the iPad we were using to play music got too hot in the sun and shut off unexpectedly. But no need to panic! I was on my toes and quickly switched to playing the music from my phone onto the second mic. It was seamless, and honestly, the couple didn’t even notice the difference! Music played on, and the ceremony went off without a hitch, including their broom jump and recessional — all set to the perfect tunes.

We also had a funny moment when bees decided to take an interest in our charcuterie board. Not ideal, right? But I handled it calmly (with a little tough love for the bees), and everything was quickly back on track.

A Truly Magical Day

From the beginning until the end of the day, the couple’s joy was contagious and the energy was so high. As always, my team and I were there every step of the way, ensuring everything ran smoothly from the vendor coordination to time-sensitive like the sunset photos, first dance and speeches.

The couple shared some beautiful feedback, saying:

Becky and her team did an amazing job coordinating and creating content for our wedding. She was on top of every detail from vendors to helping with the layout, and was really easy to get along with. She buzzed around nonstop but was always there when we needed something! The videos were also very cute and personal to our vibe and they were edited very quickly so it was really cool to be able to look back on our day so swiftly. If anyone is looking for a coordinator, I can’t recommend Becky enough!”

Vendors also enjoyed collaborating with our team:

“Such a great time working with Becky and her team over the past weekend. From the vendor side, I love a quarterback that's flexible, calm, yet alert and attentive. There are a ton of moving parts at each event we do and no one event is the same. A lot of our events are high pressure and Becky is perfect for the job. I highly recommend having Your Wedding Bestie to plan your big day!”

Honestly, this kind of feedback is what makes all the hard work worth it.

Vendor Love & Highlights

It’s always a team effort to create something this special, and I’m so grateful to the amazing vendors who helped bring this wedding to life. Here are a few of the talented folks who made it happen:
